Podcasts have seen an explosive rise in popularity over the past two decades, transforming communication and storytelling in the digital age. International Podcast Day, launched in 2015 and celebrated annually on September 30, is a global event dedicated to recognizing the impact and growth of podcasts. This day is recognized in two parts: for the creativity of podcasters and to encourage listeners to explore the diverse world of audio storytelling.
The term “podcasting” was first coined by journalist Ben Hammersley in 2004, and the medium has evolved significantly since then. Major milestones include Apple iTunes integrating podcast support in 2005 and reaching over one billion subscribers by 2013.
In 2022, we realized that we had a story to share. Our podcast, “Inhale Exhale Elevate,” was born from our deep involvement in the cannabis industry and our recognition of its unique challenges and potential. Our two female founders, Autumn Shelton and Hanna Brand, co-hosted the first few episodes, with Autumn taking the reins over the last two years.
“We started the podcast to inspire, educate, and elevate industry leaders,” says Autumn. “Our goal was to create a platform that not only tackles current, relevant topics but also offers insights into the future of cannabis. By engaging one-on-one with pioneers shaping the industry, I aim to help destigmatize this incredible plant and demonstrate how it enhances people’s lives.”

The cannabis sector is multifaceted, fast-paced, and often challenging to navigate due to constant regulatory changes. We saw a need for a platform that could not only keep pace with these changes but also provide valuable insights for advocates and professionals.
“Inhale Exhale Elevate” encapsulates our mission:
“Inhale“: We absorb the latest developments and trends in the cannabis industry.
“Exhale“: We share this knowledge, along with expert advice and strategies.
“Elevate“: We aim to elevate the industry by encouraging knowledge sharing and professional growth.
Innovative Storytelling
Unlike traditional radio, many podcasts utilize serialized storytelling techniques that allow for deeper narratives and character development. This has transformed how stories are told in audio format, drawing listeners into compelling arcs over multiple episodes.
For someone who’s never tuned in, Autumn describes our podcast as “a dynamic exploration of the cannabis industry’s landscape.”
“We offer a mix of timely updates on regulations and market trends, coupled with inspiring stories of professional journeys within the industry,” says Autumn. “Our goal is to be a valuable resource that helps listeners stay informed, inspired and equipped to excel in this exciting and challenging field.”
Community Engagement
Podcasts cultivate a sense of community among creators and listeners. Interactive elements such as listener feedback and social media engagement sweeten this connection, making podcasts more than just a medium for entertainment.
For Autumn, the most rewarding aspect of hosting ‘Inhale Exhale Elevate’ has been the incredible opportunity to connect with individuals who are truly passionate about the cannabis industry.
“Each episode allows me to dive deep into the unique journeys and success stories of our guests, which never ceases to inspire and educate me,” she says. “I’m continually amazed by the diversity of experiences and the innovative approaches people bring to this rapidly evolving field. Whether it’s a cultivator, entrepreneur, or advocate, each story adds a rich layer to our understanding of the industry.
“These conversations with industry trailblazers provide valuable insights for our listeners, share wisdom, and inspire others to forge their own paths in cannabis, which is truly fulfilling.”
