There were celebrations all round at the 2024 Ventura County Fair, which ran from July 31 to August 11. The long-standing SoCal event was celebrating its 150th birthday—and we were celebrating our history-making Blue Ribbon win at the fair’s inaugural cannabis competition with our Limonene Liftoff cultivar.

Hanna Brand, our co-founder and CSO, manned our educational booth in the agriculture center. It was a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with friends who already knew and loved our products and introduce new people to our award-winning products grown using 100% spray-free, earth-friendly cultivation practices on our Santa Barbara farm. We accepted the award from the Weedcon team, who awarded the coveted prize on behalf of the Ventura Fair.

We’re honored to be the first cannabis farm to receive a Blue Ribbon at the Ventura County Fair. According to the judges, our award-winning product, the Limonene Liftoff 3.5g flower jar, stood out for its captivating qualities and unique effects.

“We were thrilled to be part of the first Ventura County Fair contest,” says Hanna. “We submitted our Limonene Liftoff 3.5g flower jar to be judged against all the other local entries. We secured the honor to be the first cannabis farm to win a Blue Ribbon!”

Limonene Liftoff is a captivating cultivar with a unique and delightful flavor profile, blending sweet candy and zesty lemon. This strain was bred by Grandiflora Mark and pheno-hunted by Purple City Genetics. It is one of the loudest flowers we grow here at Autumn Brands.

“We selected this cultivar initially because we were excited about the collaboration between Mark from Grandiflora and Purple City Genetics,” says Johnny Brand, our co-founder and head cultivator. “Both are well known for producing amazing and unique genetics.” On the topic of genetics, Limonene Liftoff is a West Mac x Melonatta cross.

According to Johnny, during initial growing tests, the cultivation team was delighted with the pungent candy/citrus smell and the superb bag appeal with light purple and lime green hues.

“After curing, the same unmatched nose and bag appeal we saw in the greenhouse translated to a high-quality, finished product,” says Johnny.

“People who smoke this flower have all given positive feedback. The taste is delightful and smooth, with unique hints of lemon candy. Though Limonene Liftoff is difficult to grow and yields are average, the quality and uniqueness of the flower has cemented its place in our production rotation.”

The distinctive aroma of Limonene Liftoff is best described as a giant bowl of Green Sour Skittles. The flower is a vibrant mix of dark and lime green with hues of purple and plenty of sparkly bag appeal!
