Naturally grown cannabis starts with a healthy ecosystem. At Autumn Brands, great cannabis begins long before flower reaches the jar. It starts in our greenhouses in Carpinteria, California, where generations of farming experience meet a simple philosophy: work with nature, not against it.
From the beneficial insects that help protect our plants to the terpenes responsible for each cultivar’s distinctive aroma and flavor, every part of our growing process is connected. By creating a healthy greenhouse ecosystem and growing without pesticide sprays, we focus on producing clean, flavorful cannabis that lets the plant express what makes it unique.
Walk through an Autumn Brands greenhouse and you may notice some very small members of our cultivation team hard at work. For us, naturally grown cannabis means creating an environment where plants can thrive while beneficial insects help maintain balance.
Instead of relying on pesticide sprays to control unwanted pests, we use beneficial insects as part of an integrated pest management system. These tiny predators help manage pest populations naturally, allowing us to maintain balance within the greenhouse.
It’s an approach rooted in our family’s agricultural background and decades of experience growing plants on California’s Central Coast. Rather than waiting for a problem and reaching for a spray, our cultivation team is constantly monitoring the plants and introducing beneficial insects strategically throughout the growing cycle.
The result is a living ecosystem where good bugs help us fight the bad ones.
Cannabis is a plant people ultimately inhale, which makes the way we grow it especially important to us.
This commitment to naturally grown cannabis has shaped the way we cultivate at Autumn Brands since 2018. Instead, we focus on prevention, careful monitoring, environmental controls and beneficial insects.
It’s not necessarily the easiest way to grow. It requires attention, experience and a deep understanding of what’s happening inside the greenhouse. But for our family, it’s worth it.

When you open a package of cannabis and immediately notice citrus, earth, spice, pine, fruit or that unmistakable cannabis funk, you’re experiencing terpenes.
Terpenes are naturally occurring aromatic compounds found throughout the plant world. They’re part of what gives lemons their citrus aroma, lavender its recognizable scent and different cannabis cultivars their unique aromatic profiles.
Cannabis can contain many different terpenes, and the combination and concentration of those compounds help create the distinctive aroma and flavor of each cultivar.
Three you’ll frequently hear about are myrcene, caryophyllene and limonene.
Myrcene is commonly associated with earthy, herbal and musky aromas, sometimes accompanied by fruity or tropical notes. It’s one of the most commonly occurring terpenes found in cannabis and is also naturally present in plants including hops, mangoes and thyme.
Our Sour Power #69 received Gold for Myrcene at the 2026 California Cannabis Awards, highlighting the cultivar’s standout terpene expression.
Caryophyllene brings peppery, spicy and woody characteristics to a terpene profile. Outside cannabis, it’s naturally found in black pepper, cloves and cinnamon.
Our Purple Carbonite earned Bronze for Caryophyllene at the 2026 California Cannabis Awards.
As its name might suggest, limonene is known for its bright citrus aroma and is naturally abundant in the rinds of lemons, oranges and other citrus fruits.
Rather than acting alone, limonene often combines with other terpenes to create a cultivar’s overall aromatic profile.
That interaction is part of what makes cannabis so interesting: it’s rarely about one single compound.
While individual terpenes can tell us a lot about a cultivar, we’re particularly interested in how they appear together.
At the 2026 California Cannabis Awards, Sour Power #69 won Gold in the MCL category, recognizing its co-dominant profile of Myrcene, Caryophyllene and Limonene. Purple Carbonite earned Bronze in the same category.
Sour Power #69 also earned Silver for Total Terpenes.
For our family, these awards are exciting recognition of the care that goes into our naturally grown cannabis from the greenhouse through harvest. Genetics provide the potential, but our job as farmers is to give each plant the environment and care it needs to reach that potential.
There’s a lot happening between planting a cannabis plant and opening a finished package.
Our plants spend their lives under the California sun in our Carpinteria greenhouses. Beneficial insects help us manage pests. Our cultivation team carefully monitors the environment and each crop throughout its life. After harvest, the flower is slowly dried and cured before being carefully prepared for packaging.
Every step has the same goal: respect the plant and protect the quality we’ve spent months cultivating.
That’s the connection between the beneficial insects in our greenhouse and the naturally grown cannabis that ultimately reaches your hands.
